Understanding your skin

Your skin sheds 30-40,000 skin cells every minute...

Just let that sink in!

This is totally normal, however, where the body may try to shed these on it's own, many skin cells do end up remaining on the surface of the skin, settling in to pores which is where you can get a dull, rough appearance.

Your skin regenerates every 28 Days to replace the 40,000 cells that are lost each day. This slows down as you get older along with the thinning of skin.

The skin is made up of 3 layers.

Subcutis – this is the innermost layer of your skin, and mainly consists of collagen cells and fat

Dermis – this is your skin’s middle layer, and is responsible for around 90% of your skin’s thickness

Epidermis – the outermost layer of skin, the epidermis protects the skin from the environment, while retaining moisture
